Estonia – A brief history.

The Republic of Estonia is a small country in northeastern Europe, bordering the Baltic Sea to the west and north, Russia to the east, and Latvia

Estonian people are considered one of the oldest in Europe

They were conquered by Germany, Denmark, Poland, Sweden, and finally Russia

Its independence only occurred due to the collapse of the Russian Empire during the first world war, but at the beginning of the second world war the Soviet Union forcibly incorporated Estonia

Only in 1990 was the Republic of Estonia restored

Talin

I never heard of Tallin, but I heard great things when I was in Helsinki and decided to check and it was a pleasant surprise.

The central part is considered the oldest medieval city, well preserved, still with walls and towers and is listed as a UNESCO world heritage site.

Tallinn, the country’s capital is very charming and one of the smallest capitals in Europe, with only 400 thousand inhabitants.

It is a very quiet city with many bars, restaurants and buildings from the era of the Soviet Union, it has the air of a small town with an interior, but with the ease of a European capital.

There’s nothing like sitting at the tables in the main square and having a few beers.

The city emerged around 1050 with a strong mercantile role in northern Europe.

Due to the attacks it was completely walled, thus leaving one of its most striking features.

The old town is within the walls and the new one (downtown) has been growing throughout history.

After a few days of enjoying the city.

I went to visit the Lahemaa National Park, where it has an abandoned submarine base from the time of the Soviet Union, beaches and a bucolic landscape.

Since I was in Estonia, the natural route is to go to Letonia, which today is called Latvia.

I took a bus to Riga, capital of Latvia.

Your next trip starts here

Ready? Then let's hit the road...

Book your flight.

Finding cheap flights can be difficult and stressful, but with the tips from the Blog and using Skyscanner or Google flights, the task can even be enjoyable.

Today, these are the most complete tools on the market

Book your accommodation.

With that in mind, it’s time to choose your accommodation.

The best tool is Booking.com.

For those who are going to use hostels, the best tool is Hostelworld.

I have used both very often and always find the best prices.

Get your insurance

Insurance is something we never want to use, but it is traumatic if we need it and don’t have it.

It will cover the costs of any eventuality of illness, injury, theft and/or cancellations of tickets, hotels, etc.

I have used WorldNomads or Assistcard, which always have the insurance with the coverage that travelers need, in addition to having coverage worldwide.
