Jericoacoara, Ceará: The paradise that makes time stand still.
After incredible days between Parnaíba and Barra Grande, I continued my journey towards Jericoacoara, in Ceará. The road there is an adventure in itself – stretches of sand, dunes, and a landscape that changes with every turn. When the car finally arrived in the village, I understood why Jeri, as it is affectionately called, is considered one of the most magical places in Brazil.
Arrival in Jericoacoara
Entering Jericoacoara is like crossing a portal to another pace of life. The streets are sandy, the coconut trees dance in the wind, and the sea always seems to invite you for a swim. The village is small, but full of energy. People from all over the world circulate there, mixing accents, laughter, and good stories.
I stayed very close to the main beach. At night, the sound of the sea lulled the silence – a privilege that makes any traveler forget the hustle and bustle of daily life.
The charm of the village
What enchanted me most about Jeri was the balance between tourism and the local essence. Despite its worldwide fame, the village maintains that spirit of a small community, where everyone knows each other and time seems to move slowly. Walking barefoot through the sandy streets and talking to the locals is part of the experience.

What to do in Jericoacoara
Jeri is the kind of destination where nature dictates the rhythm of the days. And every corner holds a unique experience.
- Sunset Dune – Climbing the dune at the end of the afternoon is a ritual. Everyone gathers up there to watch the spectacle of the sun setting into the sea. It’s simple, but unforgettable.
- Pedra Furada (Hole in the Rock) – One of Jericoacoara’s postcards. I walked there along the beach during low tide, and every meter of the journey was rewarded by the view. The stone arch frames the sea in a way that looks like a work of art.
- Lagoa do Paraíso (Paradise Lagoon) – One of the most beautiful places in Ceará. The transparent waters, the hammocks in the water, and the tranquil atmosphere create the perfect setting for relaxation.
- Lagoa Azul (Blue Lagoon) – Less crowded than the Paradise Lagoon, but equally charming. Ideal for those who prefer peace and quiet and want to enjoy the view without rushing.
- Kitesurfing and windsurfing – The strong winds make Jericoacoara one of the best places in the world for sailing sports. Even for those who only watch, the spectacle of the colorful sails on the horizon is incredible.

Jeri's nights
When the sun sets, Jericoacoara comes alive. The streets fill with lights, music, and laughter. There are bars with forró music, beachfront restaurants, and craft shops open late into the night.
One evening, I had grilled fish with cashew sauce and cashew flour farofa for dinner. Afterwards, I went to the square to watch a capoeira circle and try a freshly made passion fruit caipirinha. Everything was simple, everything was good.
Best time to visit Jericoacoara
The best time to visit is between July and December, when the sun shines almost every day and the wind blows constantly. During this period, the lagoons are full and the sunsets are breathtaking. Between January and May, the rains make the landscape greener and the destination quieter – a good option for those seeking tranquility.
Jericoacoara on the Route of Emotions
Arriving in Jericoacoara was the perfect ending to my journey along the Route of Emotions. After passing through Parnaíba and relaxing in Barra Grande, it was here that I experienced the highlight of the trip: exuberant nature, a pleasant climate, and that feeling of being exactly where I should be.
When I saw the last sunset of the trip, sitting on the sand, I realized how special this little piece of Ceará is. Jericoacoara is not just a destination – it’s an experience that stays in your soul.
