Laos – A brief history.

Laos is a country in Southeast Asia. Lan Xang Hom Khao (Kingdom of One Million Elephants) existed as a unified kingdom in the period from 1354 to 1707.

When it was dominated by Thailand and at the end of the 19th century it was conquered by France.

Laos gained independence in 1954 and was soon involved in the Vietnam War.

In 1975 the communists took power and in 1991 the new constitution gave the people more freedom.

Luang Phrabang

I started with the longest bus ride, 24 hours from Hanoi to Luang Phrbang. It was very tiring, the roads in the country are very bad,
even so, I arrived at 8 pm.

After a short rest I went to a night market where there is street food.

The city is sui genere, very small and quiet. I went to visit the Mekong river and Pak Ou Caves on the banks of the Mekong river, yes the same as in Vietnam (The river rises in Tibet, passes through Myamar, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam).

After a few days I went to Vientiane

Vientiane

Vientiane is the capital of Laos. I arrived on a very rainy day, rested a little and just went out to eat.

On this walk I discovered a Brazilian steakhouse. find out more here.

I came back the other day and met the Brazilian chef Esequiel facebook. He showed me some places in the city.

Vietiane borders Nong Khai and from there I took a bus to Chang Mai.

Now it’s time to get back to  Thailand.

As I am on the northern border I will visit Chiang Mai.

Then return to Bangkok to take the flight to Honk Kong.

Ready? Then let's hit the road...

Book your flight.

Finding cheap flights can be difficult and stressful, but with the tips from the Blog and using Skyscanner or Google flights, the task can even be enjoyable.

Today, these are the most complete tools on the market

Book your accommodation.

With that in mind, it’s time to choose your accommodation.

The best tool is Booking.com.

For those who are going to use hostels, the best tool is Hostelworld.

I have used both very often and always find the best prices.

Get your insurance

Insurance is something we never want to use, but it is traumatic if we need it and don’t have it.

It will cover the costs of any eventuality of illness, injury, theft and/or cancellations of tickets, hotels, etc.

I have used WorldNomads or Assistcard, which always have the insurance with the coverage that travelers need, in addition to having coverage worldwide.
