Fira, capital of Santorini
Fira, capital of Santorini

After much doubt, Santorini was chosen as the destination of the Greek islands.

Our trip started in Holland, Germany and Athens in Greece, now we have to choose which island to visit.

Greece has many islands and it is difficult to choose between so many, but it was easier for us.

Because Penha’s dream was to see the little white houses with blue doors and the sea in the photos of Greece.

These are characteristics of the well-known Cyclades islands, the main ones being Mykonos and Santorini.

Santorini has the most beautiful views of the sea, cliffs, and white houses, so we chose this one.

You can go by plane or boat, but since the boat was cheaper and it is a means of transport less used by us, I decided to go by boat.

Since it is one of the most distant islands, it takes 5 to 8 hours by boat depending on the type.

I chose to go with the fastest 5h30.

The flight takes 45 minutes, but if you include the time to get to the airport, check in, etc., the difference is not much, at most 2 hours.

The boat trip was very peaceful and we were able to see several islands along the way.

In addition to the comfort of being able to walk and in some cases enjoy the view from outside the boat.

Located in the southern Aegean Sea, the island was created after a huge volcanic eruption in the 17th century BC, which shaped the caldera.

The Santorini caldera offers a dramatic view of the sea and huge cliffs crowded with whitewashed houses.

On the other side of the island are famous red and black volcanic beaches.

Fira

Fira is the capital of Santorini and is also the center of attractions.

It is located in the middle of the island and on the edge of the Caldera, a 260-meter cliff, which provides a wonderful view of the sea.

It is the tourist hotspot, with many bars, restaurants and shops.

Perissa

Perissa is located at the base of Mesa Vouno Mountain, which separates Perissa from Kamari.

Kamari and Perissa are famous for their black sand beaches.

I don’t think you can call them sand, because they are more like black pebbles, due to their volcanic origin.

Perissa, with its black lava sands, sandy seabed and crystal clear dark blue waters, makes for an impressive setting.

It is one of the longest and most famous beaches in Santorini. The infrastructure of the place is excellent, with hotels, restaurants, shops, etc.

There is a good place for diving and it gets crowded during the summer.

Oia

Famous for its white houses with blue domes, charming alleys and spectacular views of the Aegean Sea, the village is a paradise for those seeking picture-postcard views.

The sunsets in Oia are legendary, attracting visitors from all over the world to watch the golden spectacle on the horizon.

In addition, there are sophisticated restaurants, quaint little shops and luxurious hotels with infinity pools.

Walking through the ruins of Oia Castle or exploring Amoudi Bay are unmissable experiences. A magical destination for an unforgettable trip!

Greece has so much more to see, but we were running out of time.

Time to go home.
