Canal principal de Veneza

We took the train from Milano Centrale station and went to Venice.

We stayed in Venezia Mestre, which is one station before Venice (island).

It is much cheaper and much quieter to sleep.

Venice is located in Veneto, in the north of Italy.

Considered a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, it has more than 260 thousand inhabitants.

We got up early to be able to enjoy Venice more before the vast majority arrive.

The train takes only eight minutes, crosses the canal and arrives at Santa Lucia station, which is in Piazzale Roma.

This is the last point where transport from the mainland arrives.

Canals of Venice

The city has more than 100 islands, 400 bridges and 150 canals, which serve as streets for residents and tourists.

It has a very different atmosphere from other cities.

Especially if you get lost in the little streets and canals, discovering alleys, old mansions and centuries-old buildings.

I visited a mansion that was over 300 years old.

When you think of Venice, you think of romanticism, with gondola rides and the singing of the drivers, as well as of course the many films we have seen.

I always like to see the most famous places, but also to go off the tourist trail, to experience the more local situations.

Of course we went on a gondola ride, went to St. Mark’s Square, visited the Basilica, the Rialto Bridge, etc.

But to get to know Venice better, just leave this indicated path, when you see an arrow indicating the way, go in the opposite direction, and you will find many picturesque places, great restaurants, as well as many dead ends when you come across a canal.

After dinner, we took the Vaporetto back to the train station.

After two days exploring Venice, it’s time to move on to Florence.

Ready? Then let's hit the road...

Book your flight.

Finding cheap flights can be difficult and stressful, but with the tips from the Blog and using Skyscanner or Google flights, the task can even be enjoyable.

Today, these are the most complete tools on the market

Book your accommodation.

With that in mind, it’s time to choose your accommodation.

The best tool is Booking.com.

For those who are going to use hostels, the best tool is Hostelworld.

I have used both very often and always find the best prices.

Get your insurance

Insurance is something we never want to use, but it is traumatic if we need it and don’t have it.

It will cover the costs of any eventuality of illness, injury, theft and/or cancellations of tickets, hotels, etc.

I have used WorldNomads or Assistcard, which always have the insurance with the coverage that travelers need, in addition to having coverage worldwide.
